Lotus 108

I was at the science museum the other day and spotted this bike as part of Emily Pugh’s ‘Bicycle Tour’ installation. Amongst many examples from the museum’s collection of interesting and historic cycles, this is a replica example of the Olympic pursuit bicycle that set world records and enabled Chris Boardman’s gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Designed by Englishman Mike Burrows, this bike pushed competitive bicycle design, utilising a carbon composite monocoque in an advanced aerofoil cross-section construction (which I don’t pretend to understand but I’m sure it’s bad ass)

Anyway it was the only fixed gear bike they had on display (other than a couple of penny parthing types) and although it would be great to have more fixed gear bike design represented, this is a pretty cool bike
