Today had to be the best day to be on your bike!

Met the guys (Indra and Kamal) at Cycle PS in Battersea, chilled for abit. And went for a ride with our mate Ian, road was busy in this awesome weather. People on their bikes, went around looking for a place to get my new frame painted. Bumped into Levi as we got to high street Ken, beging of the ride. Yeah, it was a fun day around London.

Do’nut Ride Review

with one comment

This sunday Fixed Gear London hosted Le Tour Do’nut. A cruise to Dunkin Donuts in Hounslow followed by a quick blast to Krispy Kreme in Enfield.

We met at 11am outside Niketown & made our way over to Hounslow via Shepherds bush then along the A315 beside the River Thames. It was a great day for a ride, 21 degrees with a cool breeze. Everybody arrived on an empty stomach, so our mouths were watering all the way down to Hounslow, this made the road slippery & Duke took a little spill on his pink Dosnoveta near Notting Hill arts club. Luckily some super cool police officers came along & even offered some water & first aid.

The ride to Dunkin Donuts was pretty much mishap free otherwise, a traffic free Sunday morning which felt a lot like the ride to Paris last year, good memories. We made it to Dunkin Donuts around 1pm & chowed down on some sweet treats. Apple crumble, strawberries & cream, glazed, raspberry jam – everything sounded good after 2 hours riding. We ate, digested, got brainfreeze & sugar rush from the shakes then made our way back to Central London so we could head over to Enfield for some more sugar soaked treats.

The ride back to Central London was a little hairy too, a slow front puncture for Moses 20mins after we left Hounslow, but we got moving quickly after it got patched up. Next it was Mikeys turn, a catastrophic crash in Hammersmith (which sounded worse than it actually was). Some street signs appeared out of nowhere & took Mikey flat out. He was completely ok & that was the last of the days mishaps. Thanks to the guy across the road whose first suggestion was that we upload crash up on youtube.

After a wait in Camden for a couple more riders we headed to Enfield via Finsbury Park, Wood Green, Palmers Green then Winchmore Hill. A few climbs later & after manoeuvring our way through a protest in Wood Green we were there. We upped the pace on the ride there so our stomachs were growling when we arrived.

We were tempted to join in with musical chairs at the kids party going on at Krispy Kremes but we had our own games in the car park outside. When realised that Donuts wouldn’t be enough junk food we combined the sweet stuff with KFC & McDonalds to appease the hunger, life is good.

After some more digestion it was time for the games. Longest skid, trackstand, drift through the gap & kick the can, Mike even got some whip skids in on his motorbike, sketchy. Indra won the longest skid + drift, Kamal won the track stand & also got some man points for the skid out of the carpark, over the kerb, through the bush & straight into a wall ride on the Krsipy Kreme HQ.

We handed out some prizes & made our way back down the A10, fast. A successful ride which we plan on making a thing of so look out on the blog & Instagram for more info. Next up sprints – see you soon guys.

Today has to be one of my best ride in the morning. It was amazing the weather was so good, wearing my dickies shorts and my chill out tee done by Ty. Showing my body heat to everyone!

As family comes first I don’t ride often, but when I do I make sure to go out there and have fun. Explore London and see new things, as summer comes near I hope to see you guys and girls out there. Feel free to say hi to me when you see me riding. I don’t bite, only if you have food with you!

Bikes, Beers & Backpacks. The ‘Chrome Industries Wrenched: London’ Magazine launch party at Kinoko Cycles

leave a comment »

Fixed Gear London & Kinoko cycles hosted the ‘Chrome Wrenched: London’ magazine launch party.  Chrome Industries is a US based company who consistently produce some of the best & most bombproof gear for cycling & living around the city.

We kicked off with some beers & caffeinated beverages (courtesy of Camden Brewery & Red bull) at 7pm while everyone talked bikes & signed up for the race set for 7:45pm.  It was 29°C the day previous & rained throughout the start of race day but luckily the skies cleared just in time for the event, welcome to London. Bike people began filtering into Golden Square quite steadily until we had what looked like our own little outdoor trade fair.

It was a standard checkpoint race, 5 checkpoints, and 5 Phone boxes revealed only on the start line, whoever came back with all 5 numbers first won. Respect to Mikey R for convincing plenty of people to sign up for the race – even the guys who spent last month’s rent on their composite front wheels.  In all around 20 riders put their race faces on, we saw bottle cages, crash helmets, cleats & one guy who even took his shirt off to get more ‘aero’.  Lastly Dickies provided the racers with some slick pens & we were good to go!

Image

The route included 6 phone boxes: Picadilly Circus, Duncannon Street, Wellington Street, Shelton/Neal Street, Moore Street & Broadwick Street.  Most people opted to do a loop starting with Piccadilly Circus then following logically round to Neal St etc.  Everyone arrived back within the 30min mark, tired but safe & sound & more importantly, bikes intact.

Big respect to our winner Charles who arrived back in 12:43.30s, complete with tales of a seriously hairy moment with a black cab.  Here are the results:

Position Name Time
1st Charles 12:43.30s
2nd Archie + 0.01s
3rd Max +0.02s
4th Saheed +0.03s
5th Federico +0.04s

As you can see it was a photo finish but Charles managed to just nab it, thanks to our official timekeeper (iOS 6).

The winner got a Chrome jersey, Chrome Backpack, some T-Shirts from FGL & Chrome, a FGL lockwhip tool designed by Andy Ellis & a cold Beer.  The runners up got some t-shirts, Lockwhips, tyres & sticker packs.  After the prize-giving was wrapped up it was time for more beers & a quick browse of some of the free copies of Wrenched: London.  Rob & Lettie insisted on signing some copies of the Wrenched mags to ‘add value’, but Rob took his new fame overboard & began offering personally signed photos.  Make sure you get down to Kinoko to pick up your free Wrenched copy & have a look round too!

We were absolutely stoked with the turnout & it was genuinely great to see everybody representing Fixed Gear.  Solid props to Andy Ellis who was the brains behind the whole operation & a big, big thanks to Chrome, Kinoko & all our sponsors who provided prizes, support & drinks. After congratulating the winners we all sipped the night away whist discussing worldly issues like why our form of foot retention is better than everybody else’s, how to wheelie safely through rush hour traffic & why footjamming is the new skidding.

We’ve got more events like this planned for the future so we’ll keep you posted as long as you keep it Fixed!  Peace, respect & big love – FGL.
