Ramen Burger Ride

leave a comment »

Easter Sunday, the weather was awesome compared to last years event. Told Ian Patterson I wanted to go to this place in Cuttys ark that makes ramen burger. I showed Ian a route that I wanted to take but he had another route in mind, he said it will be along side the river and less (RAD)road.

So we all met up outside Nike town as always, at 11am. When everyone was there we took off heading towards south bank, crossing the bridge to get there. This was Easter sunday and it was packed with people with families and there you 15 people on bikes, but no one took notice at us and went on with their business enjoying the sun. We hit up the side streets and even there was packed some part wasn’t of the ride wasn’t even smooth, a lot of cobblestone route but the building around it was beautiful. We was weaving around people and again they didn’t give a damn what was happening, going pass tower bridge on the side street smelling the food at borough market.

Along side the people, there was tricky obstacles that we came up to. Some of us got off the bike, some of us tried and some of us failed. But all in all we had a good laugh at it, Marek was there to captured the action before we even got to the place. Ian and Marek had everything planed on the route, it almost felt like we were on a roller coaster getting our photo taken on the intense parts.

The weather was great the view was awesome, the people was RAD!

Awesome view?

You should see the guys at the bottom doing a pee…

At this point I needed some food and you could just see Cuttys ark, I knew it wasn’t long till I had that ramen burger in my hands.

Pimp my ramen, is run by pinoy guys at Greenwhich market they are there on the weekends. Burgers cost £5 and you can choose from a normal burger, Filipino pulled pork, chicken teriyaki and Veg burger. Just think of a normal bun burger but take it away and put a ramen noodles as the bun, it also comes with fried egg, cheese and secret sauce with lettuce.

After we got our food we took somewhere we can chill out and enjoy our food, not all of us got the burgers because there was a lot of other stalls that had awesome food. If you haven’t been you should go and check it out, I haven’t been there for a long while and a lot has changed since I was there.

On the way back we stopped over at a BMX/Skate shop called Curve, the shop just opened so if your’e around in Deptford pass by. IMG_2757

Thanks you to the people that came to the ride and thanks Marek for the photos. Ian for the RAD route!

Hello From KamalRB!

leave a comment »

Hello everyone my names Kamal and I’m the newest member of FixedGearLondon, I just thought I’d introduce myself and give a little insight into my life on bikes. Firstly thanks to all the guys from FGL for welcoming me and allowing me to be a part of everything you do! I’ve been riding fixed for the last 6 years and I starting out with a crappy off the peg single speed I have since covered pretty much every style of fixed gear bike from freestyle, NJS and a brief weekend trial of a lopro (my back can’t hack it). I’m 20 years old and I’ve lived in West London my whole life although I’m all over London cycling and also cover most of the city for work as well.

My current stable consists of only two track bikes; the first is my Brooklyn Machine Works Gangsta Track V2 which is one of my top favourite fixed gears ever. I’ve restored it to a degree from a rattle canned black beater into a bright green beast. I recently managed to get a hold of a V1 fork from BMW as part of their latest production run which I’ve always wanted. I love the Gangsta because it’s bomb proof and so versatile.

My other bike is a GT GTB, another one of my top five, which was rawed by a previous owner and looks MEAN. I’ve always loved the triple triangle frame (this is my second) and mine has a steel columbus fork which I think suits the frame more than the standard (although I’m on the lookout for a Wound Up 😉 hint hint). It’s a comfortable bike but still more than capable when i want to put my head down and go fast, which is the reason I bought it.

Now that the bikes are out of the way a bit more into my background; essentially if it rolls on two wheels I want to know how to fix it and I’ll have a go at riding it. I spent the last two years working for one of the big UK bike retailers which gave me an endless pool of experience but took up a lot of my free time and slowed down my riding. I’ve recently moved into mechanic work which is a lot more enjoyable and a lot less time consuming, so this summer I’m hoping to spend a lot more time working on and riding my bikes!

I’m always up for talking about bikes, feel free to give me a shout if you see me about on the road and I hope to see a load of you guys out on a ride soon. -KamalRB

Frist Puncture

After seeing the guy that hit me, at the same place where the accident happened. I had my first flat tyre of the year! Is this guy giving me bad luck? On top of that my Gopro wasn’t on aswell. It was a long walk from Big Ben to Carnaby street. Sucks…

Good Bye 2014

with 2 comments

So it’s that time when I say good bye to this year adventure. I haven’t been doing long big ride this year, just been riding to and from work. I had more down than up this year, one of them is getting hit by a car and damaging my 14R, still waiting for the insurance to get back to me. From that I’ve not been focusing on my bike and kinda laying low.

My first bike ride of this year (2014).

This year I’ve met some good people like Daisaku from Japan. For his last day in London, took him out for pizza at mulberry street. They’ve got some big pizza’s. We had a good laugh and good ride that day, showing him London for the last time.

Got a balance bike for my daughter and took her around battersea park, will it lead her on riding fixed bikes???

For some reason I didn’t show any love for my BROOKLYN Launchpad this year think I rode it once! Kinda sucks, think I need to change the ratio where it’s nice and easy to ride with.

This year I’ve seen a lot of people not caring how they walk across the road or my best one is how they made the bike box for us people on bike but yet vehicles still use up the space. Yet if we don’t have helmet or lights even no breaks we get a telling off? The law is funny sometimes.

Some of us did a photo shoot for continental, photo were taken by Boyce. A long day riding around London in the cold and wet. But them photos came out good!

Who was the lucky ones that got the Scorpio tee designed by Moses? We didn’t make many so if you got on count yourself lucky.

Our egg hunt race was a very wet day, only the hard core riders came out to play that day. It was cold and so wet but we manage to do the event, and want to thank to the people that came.

It was fun doing a video for plume mudguard early in the morning and also falling over was the best part!

London had an awesome summer, a real summer. It was good to see so many people on their bikes.

Hope you guys enjoyed my little video on YouTube of me riding around London on a different view.

I saw more in Paris on Tour de France than when they came here?

I was kinda jealous of Rob when he rode to Paris this year…But for real he done well!

I’m so glad this happened, had so much fun with these guys. So many food that day. Don’t know how I still rode afterwards or maybe that long rest??

I’ve done this year Bikeathon to raise money for leukaemia blood cancer and made £250.

I’ve set up a bike ride for Johnny cupcakes guys and did a burger ride, going to dip and flip burger place. Turns out the road that day was busy and it felt like it was Monday morning!

A week later we’ve done a donuts ride going to Hounslow for Dunkin donuts and then went up north to Enfield for some Krispy Kreme, while we were there we did some mini games with dickies and FGL prizes.

That time when I got hit by that stupid Mercedes car..

While getting hit by car I went to the velodrome at Olympic park it was an awesome experience.

Uniqlo came to us to do some campaign for heat tech and so we did an event in Look mum no hands, with rollapaluza. Giving away lots of prizes that night and free heat tech clothes.

We also did some photo shoot showcasing their products.

So this sums up my year! Let’s hope next year will be a good one and it will be our 10 years anniversary so keep ya eyes open of what will be happening!
Happy new year on behalf of Fixed gear London.
